Spelling Bee 2017 Results

On Wednesday, February 1st, nine 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders bravely sat on stage, waiting their turn at the microphone. Many, many multi-syllabic words later, only two students remained – 5th grader Nicolo and 3rd grader Summer  Ultimately, Nicolo was named the champion after spelling both “epidemic” and “hysterical” correctly.  It was an exciting end to a suspenseful competition.

Nicolo will go on to represent our school at the Regional Spelling Bee Championship, which will be held at Tice Valley Community Center in Walnut Creek on Saturday, March 27th.    He will be competing against other 3rd – 8th grade school champions from Contra Costa and Alameda counties for the top prize of an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. to participate in the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee.  Best of luck, Nicolo!

All classroom champions received a special “Rheem Roadrunner” bracelet to give them extra confidence during the Bee, and they also received a “Super Speller” pencil and certificate, acknowledging their impressive performances during the 45-minute Bee.  Classroom runners-up were also acknowledged and presented with a “Super Speller” pencil.  Class champions and runners-up are listed below:

Special thanks to all the 3rd – 5th grade teachers for holding classroom bees to find our finalists, and also to Ms. Culleton and Ms. Caraska who served as scorekeepers for the event.
